Saturday 9th May turned into 'Makeover Day' at Kibworth Primary School. Armed with tool boxes, paintbrushes, overalls and gardening equipment, staff, parents, carers and their children kindly gave up their Saturday to transform the school environment both indoors and outdoors. Leading the project was our new Headteacher, Mr Briggs.
Among the tasks undertaken were painting the school gates, planting up the pots and baskets, painting benches and a general tidy up. The biggest change though was the birth of our new school library which is themed around a rainforest. Many hard working members of staff, parents and children saw their way through the instructions and built a vast number of bookcases, cupboards and tables.
Children put together the cushions, carried the books to their new home, put the baskets together and found homes for the abundance of stuffed animals. A little den with a water feature was created, where children can read books whilst listening to the trickle of water and on Monday morning, Mr Briggs had even managed to have the noises of the rainforest playing; the rainforest library really is a calm and relaxing atmosphere to go and read in!
The children have been amazed by the transformation and all are keen to use their new library. Kacey (Y6) said, “it is now a really cosy, comfortable place to go and read your favourite books in. It is such an improvement from the library we had before.” After half term, each class will be taking part in a rainforest themed week of activity and learning all about the world's rainforests.
