What a difference a day makes – Year 6 woke up this morning to a cloudless blue sky and were looking forward to a day of activities in the sun! After speedily being fed and watered, it was off on foot or bus to the various activities.
On the back field, with a stunning view of Mam Tor, future archery champions were honing their skills. With only a little bit of practice, the competition was on to hit the bullseye and win points for their teams.
On the high ropes, Mrs Kandola showed her group just how to tackle the leap of faith and at abseiling, Miss Morley followed her group’s instructions to speed down the bridge! Every day we are shocked that even after a huge breakfast, when lunchtime arrives, stomachs are rumbling for more food! Today’s dish pizza.
This afternoon there was no sign of the sun deserting us and Mam Tor, Back Tor and Higger Tor offered breath-taking backdrops to our activities. It is always more comfortable to get stuck in without rain dripping down the backs of our necks! At abseiling, groups from other educational establishments looked on in awe at how easily our children descended from the top – they were so speedy that they were able to go down again in pairs!
After dinner, it was time for evening orienteering! Torches and maps in hand, children set off around the site in search of clues. Many children were amazed at how many stars they could see in the clear night sky. There was brilliant teamwork on show in the dark with Group 1 victorious. Before bed, there was just time for a warming mug of hot chocolate to end another fantastic day in Castleton.
